What is TOEFL iBT®?
The TOEFL iBT® is a test that has been designed to measure a student’s ability to use and understand English at the university level. TOEFL stands for Test of English as Foreign Language. The TOEFL iBT® evaluates at what level a student can combine linguistic skills such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking in North American English, in order to successfully complete the chosen academic course requirements.
TOEFL iBT® has been developed by and continues to run under the administration of Educational Testing Service (ETS). This body is responsible for setting the questions, conducting the tests, and sending out individual score reports.
There’s a reason why the TOEFL iBT® is so popular among students aspiring to study abroad. The TOEFL iBT® is one of the most preferred English language tests, by universities in the US, Canada, France and Germany.
At North American universities, TOEFL is the most popular English proficiency exam that is accepted and recognised
As far as language tests for admissions to universities in North America are concerned, if you just take the TOEFL iBT® and achieve good scores, you need not take any other tests. However, depending upon your chosen course, you may need to take other subject-specific proficiency assessments such as the SAT, GMAT, or GRE.
Because the TOEFL iBT® is designed to test your understanding of North-American English, if you are planning to apply to universities or colleges in North America, you should opt for this test. While in some countries IELTS is preferred, the UK and Australia also accept TOEFL iBT® scores.
This test is conducted all through the year. ETS releases over 50 test dates each year, so students can choose a date that is most convenient to them.
You will receive your results online within approximately 10 days from taking your test. Your printed scores will be mailed to you approximately 13 days after you take the test.
If you are not satisfied with your score, you can take the test any number of times again, but between every re-take, you need to wait for a 12 day period.
